    Medical Services Your care team is made up of several different staff members, each with designated responsibilities to help you lead your journey to whole-person health. Prenatal care We offer primary prenatal care in collaboration with your preferred delivering provider in Wasilla/Palmer. Health care begins at birth, let us be there for your family. ​ ​ Women's health An exam including health screenings, contraception, family planning, sexual health, and evaluation/treatment of health conditions specific to women. Acute Care Evaluation and treatment of acute medical complaints of all kinds. Walk-ins are typically welcomed. We encourage you to call ahead to optimize coordination of your care. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, dial 911. ​ Procedures Office procedures including skin lesion biopsy and removal, cyst excisions, contraceptive inserts, some GYN and orthopedic procedures are available as well. ​ Palliative Care Palliative care is specialized medical care that focusses on the relief of serious illness symptoms and includes efforts to improve quality of life. We also host some visiting specialty clinics where patients can access a specialist locally in our community. nurse visits Visits for wound care, diabetic foot care, health education, coumadin management, indwelling catheter changes, and prenatal education. In addition, nurses assist patients with ER and hospitalization discharge follow-up, post operative visit follow-up, and medication reconciliation. Regular dental exams are a critical component of preventive health care. Sunshine Community Health Center provides preventive and restorative treatments for you and your entire family, from toddlers to seniors. Preventive Routine Examinations Emergency Examinations Cleanings Hygiene Education Topical Fluoride Treatment Sealants Diagnostic Imaging Restorative Fillings Simple Extractions Dispensary Sunshine Community Health Center has a limited dispensary that stocks medications for the treatment of some acute conditions. We can provide short-term supplies of medications used for chronic illness management in order to bridge patients until they can get regular supplies from their pharmacy. We can also arrange to have medications delivered to our clinic for local pick up from a pharmacy in Wasilla. However, no controlled substances are delivered to or stored in the clinic. We are unable to fill prescriptions from Providers of other facilities since we are not a pharmacy. Read More Laboratory Sunshine Community Health Center's lab facility has OSHA waved inhouse testing available as well as the ability to do sample collection for more complicated testing done at distant labs. Send-out lab results are typically back within a few days. There are very few laboratory tests that we are unable to order for you through our lab. X-Ray Our providers are able to order basic imagingon site. The images are reviewed by the SCHC provider. However, we also have our images reviewed by a radiologist and typically have final reports available the same day. Paying for Care We are committed to providing quality care, regardless of your ability to pay. We accept most insurance carriers, offer a Sliding Fee Scale for qualifying patients, and we have a wonderful team of Care Managers and Patient Advocates with resources to help you. Funding Community Health Sunshine Commnity Health Center receives HHS funding and has Federal Public Health Services (PHS) deemed status with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including medical malpractice claims, for itself and its covered individuals. We are committed to accessible, proactive, quality healthcare, promoting community wellness through outreach and education. 1 student scholarships Next Our scholarships help defray the cost of higher education in degree and certificate programs in the fields of health and human services. The purpose of this scholarship is to promote, facilitate, and increase the knowledge and understanding of the vital role of community health care in rural areas. The scholarships will recognize the individual's scholastic achievements, leadership and citizenship attributes, and their role in community wellness. 2 Student shadowing Next Sunshine Community Health Center supports the future of the health care industry by allowing students to shadow our providers to meet their scholastic requirements. Contact our Human Resources department for more information. 3 apprenticeship program Next We work with the Alaska Primary Care Association (APCA) to provide apprenticeship program opportunities for our staff. They work with our organization (and others like ours) to promote, expand, and optimize access to primary care for all Alaskans. 4 staff scholarships Next Our Board of Directors provides staff scholarships to qualifying employees to help cover their existing tuition cost and benefit our communities. Student Scholarships Overview The goal of Sunshine Community Health Center's scholarship program is to increase the health and human services workforce in the Matanuska Susitna Valley, the state, and the country. ​ We will award scholarships, up to $2,000 each. Scholarships will honor those individuals who have had an impact in their community and school, through leadership and willingness to work with and help others. Finalist will be asked to participate in a Zoom interview with the Board of Director's Advocacy Committee. ​ Applications are available January 1, and due by April 1. Funds are available to recipients in June 2024. Minimum requirements Applicants must be a senior in high school and accepted into a higher education degree program or certificate program with a concentration in health care, behavioral health care, or social services. Application must have participated in at least 1 extracurricular or service project. Applicants must complete the essay application. Applicants must have a letter of recommendation from their school counselor (or teacher) and community member. Applicant must include their current unofficial transcript. The counselor or department chair must sign the application to ensure that the academic information submitted is accurate.
