If you’re like many Alaskans, winter can slow things down. The cold, the dark, the routine—it all adds up. And before you know it, movement becomes something you “used to do.
”But spring brings something powerful: the chance to start again.
What is 100 Miles in May?
The 100 Miles in May Challenge is a statewide initiative supporting the Healthy Futures program, which helps Alaska’s youth build the habit of daily physical activity. It’s designed for anyone—individuals, families, workplaces, or friends—to come together and move more throughout the month of May.
At Sunshine Community Health Center, we’re proud to participate as a team—and even prouder to support our community in doing the same.
How Miles Can Be Logged
This challenge is built to meet you where you are. Miles aren’t just about running—they can be logged through a variety of activities using a mileage converter.
That means:
Walking your neighborhood
Hiking your favorite trail
Biking, paddling, or even playing with your kids
Everyday movement counts
You track your activity online, watch your progress grow, and even see how you stack up on team and statewide leaderboards.
Why This Matters
This isn’t just about miles—it’s about momentum.
After months of winter, our bodies and minds benefit from getting back outside, breathing fresh air, and reconnecting with movement. And when we do that together, it becomes even more powerful.
By participating, you’re also helping model healthy habits for Alaska’s youth—showing that movement can be fun, flexible, and part of everyday life.

Your Movement, Your Way

Whether you hit 100 miles or just take the first step, you’re doing something that matters—for yourself and for your community.
