Sunshine Community Health Center is excited to welcome Mary Elizabeth “Polly” Smith, Doctor of Nursing Practice and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, to our provider team.

Polly earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Doctor of Nursing Practice (Family/Individual Across the Lifespan) from Montana State University, and completed her Psychiatric Mental Health Certification at the University of Alaska – Anchorage. She brings a unique combination of primary care experience and advanced mental health training, giving her a broad perspective on integrated, patient-centered care.

Her role at SCHC is focused on increasing access to psychiatric services for our community, particularly in rural areas where mental health resources are limited. In addition to psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and psychotherapy, Polly is passionate about collaborating with other healthcare providers and community organizations to promote mental wellness through outreach and education.

Polly’s commitment aligns closely with SCHC’s mission, vision, and values — she believes in a holistic approach to healthcare, integrated services, and strong community partnerships to reduce stigma and improve patient engagement.

Originally from western Montana, Polly and her husband moved to Alaska four years ago to extend their winter activities, and now they can’t imagine living anywhere else. Winter finds them splitboarding and cross-country skiing with their four dogs, while summer is spent hiking, fishing, exploring, and learning the art of gardening in a northern climate.

We are proud to welcome Polly to Sunshine CHC and look forward to the positive impact she will have on our community’s mental health and overall well-being.
