Bringing Comfort, One Visit at a Time: Join Our Palliative Care Volunteer Team

At Sunshine Community Health Center, we believe that no one should face serious illness alone. Our Palliative Care Volunteer Program exists to bring light, relief, and human connection to individuals with life-limiting conditions—and we’re inviting you to be a part of that mission.

The Heart of Palliative Care

Palliative care is more than just medical support; it’s emotional, spiritual, and practical care focused on improving quality of life. Our volunteers are everyday heroes—neighbors, retirees, students, parents—who give their time and hearts to those who need it most.

They visit with patients to ease loneliness. They offer respite for caregivers to rest or run errands. They prepare meals, build ramps, mow lawns, and occasionally just sit quietly holding someone’s hand. This work is simple but deeply meaningful.

One Special Need: Transporting DME

Right now, we’re especially looking for someone who can help transport durable medical equipment (DME) to patients in our care. That might mean delivering a hospital bed, walker, shower chair, or other equipment that helps someone live safely and comfortably at home. If you have a reliable vehicle and a little free time, this is a concrete and powerful way to give back.

What It Takes to Volunteer

We’re looking for community members who are:

  • Over 18 years old

  • In good physical health

  • Emotionally mature and dependable

  • Able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen

  • Have a valid driver’s license (especially for transportation tasks)

Medical experience isn’t required—just compassion, reliability, and a willingness to serve.

Why It Matters

Palliative care volunteers provide more than services—they offer dignity, relief, and companionship. Your presence, your support, and even your delivery of a bed or chair can be life-changing for a patient and their family. It’s a way to show up for your community in the most human way possible.
