New Patients

Updated: May 2, 2023

Thank you for considering Sunshine Community Health Center for your health needs! This article will help you prepare for becoming our valued patient.

Appointment Scheduling

Sunshine Clinic has two locations, one in Willow and the other in Talkeenta. When calling to schedule an appointment with us, please specify which location you would prefer to be seen in (should you have a preference). If you are a new patient, you will be asked for additional information so that you can be registered within our system. These questions could include the spelling of your legal name, date of birth, mailing address, contact, and insurance information (if you are not currently covered under an insurance plan, please ask us about our Sliding Fee Scale). All new patients must schedule an appointment with our Patient Advocates prior to their primary appointment needs.

Registration

Once scheduled, our schedulers will walk you through the electronic pre-registration process. You will receive a text message a few days prior to your appointment containing not only the date and time of your scheduled appointment but also a link that will take you to your pre-registration. This pre-registration is not a requirement to be seen for in-clinic appointments but is greatly encouraged and appreciated. Pre-registration helps with check-in efficiency on the day of your appointment.

If you are a new patient with Sunshine Community Health Center and your first appointment is a TeleHealth appointment, then the pre-registration will be required prior to being checked in with your provider on the date of your appointment (there are always clinic staff ready to assist with this process if needed).

Appointment Arrival

We ask that all patients plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment for check-in. As a new patient, your initial check-in may take longer as staff will be asking to see your insurance card(s) and photo ID. You will also be provided with a tablet and asked to complete the remainder of your registration (or if you completed the pre-registration, confirm the information on file) prior to seeing the clinical staff.

COVID-19 Symptoms

If you start to experience any COVID-19 symptoms (fever, congestion, sore throat, etc.) in the days leading up to your appointment please call our scheduling team so that arrangements can be made for COVID-19 testing prior to entering our facilities.

Cancellations & No-Shows

If any time after scheduling, it becomes clear that you are not going to be able to attend your appointment, please give us a call so that arrangements can be made to reschedule your appointment. If you are not able to call, you will be marked as a no-show 10 minutes after your scheduled appointment time. Patients that have no-showed for an appointment will receive a follow-up call from office staff offering to reschedule the missed appointment for a more convenient time and may be subject to each department's no-show policy guidelines.

For more information please contact either clinic's patient services team at 1-907-376-2273 (CARE).
